Abstract: This paper briefly introduces the progress and achievements of Research Institute of Petroleum Exploration & Development (RIPED) in launching important national oil and gas specific research, constructing S & T condition platforms, innovating theories and techniques, supporting oil and gas exploration and production, and strengthening S & T exchange and cooperation both at home and abroad. In particular, RIPED has made theoretical breakthroughs and achievements in technical innovation by launching a batch of important national projects and CNPC S & T projects. RIPED, a comprehensive research institute of PetroChina engaged in global oil and gas exploration and development, is dedicated to serving corporate strategy, backing up oilfield production, and leading technological development. Since the "11th Five-Year Plan" period, RIPED has promoted "globalization of business, internationalization of human resources, scientific management and integrative construction" in an all-round way, made theoretical breakthroughs and technical development in geological exploration and oil/gas field development, contributing a lot to CNPC’s main business both at home and abroad. RIPED will continue to strive for the construction of the world first-class research institute of oil and gas exploration and development in the "12th Five-Year Plan" period.
