    Development Status and Comparative Analysis about Overseas Upstream Business of China Oil Companies

    In recent years, China's three big oil companies propelled the "going-out" strategy in an all-round way, actively expanding overseas oil and gas resource market and petroleum engineering service market, with their overseas business stepping into fast traffic lane. This paper discussed the development status, operational characteristics, development planning and their own practice in carrying out overseas exploration and development and petroleum engineering service, and made comparison from management system, development and transformation modes, equipment and techniques, and human resources, etc. It put forward that doings that can be learned from overseas upstream assets merger and technical service, the regulations that should be abided by and some problems deserve to be paid attention.

    Drilling fluid techniques have been enhanced in an all-round way, with the development of China's oil industry. Statistics show that CNPC owns more than 5200 employees, more than 2000 technicians, and over 100 senior technical experts, with technical service and products sales covering both home and abroad, and annual income exceeding 4 billion RMB. Now the 3 systems and over 100 drilling fluid technical series developed by CNPC could basically meet the requirement of various complex strata and drilling. In recent years, the construction in high-temperature ultra-deep wells, horizontal wells, and extended reach wells got more difficult, as the targets for exploration and development became increasingly complicated. In addition, the "going-out" pace sped up continuously, so the requirement on technical performance of drilling fluid got unprecedentedly high, and forging efficient drilling fluid technical service was faced with a series of new challenges. This paper introduced CNPC's important achievements in drilling fluid techniques, analyzed the complex environment for the development of drilling fluid business, and proposed the development orientation during the "12th Five-Year Plan" period.
    Supporting Technologies for Development and Construction of Small Complex Faulted Block Groups and Their Application

    Conventional production and surface technologies are difficult to adapt to the oil and gas bearing blocks of Wen'an slope at Ba'xian sunken in Huabei Oilfield because of small and scatteredly distributed faulted blocks with heavy oil and severe sand influx in some wells. In order to drive development and construction of the oil region, technology research and pilot test were carried out, and six supporting technologies including cold heavy oil production with sand control, artificial lifting, surface gathering, heavy oil processing, trucking gas from well site, and simple water injection were gradually developed, which opened a new statement in rolling development and construction. This paper introduced the application conditions, specific measures and application effects of the supporting technologies, and pointed out good development effect in the development and construction of complex small faulted blocks, the oil production and surface technology selection and integration must suit one's measures to local conditions, highlighting the single well (or a group of wells), simple and practical and flexible, personalized for the convenience of management.
    Drilling and Construction of Four-branch Herringbone Horizontal Well in Low Permeability Thin Reservoir

    Now the herringbone horizontal well technology has become an important approach to the production improvement in low-yield oilfields both at home and abroad and the secondary and tertiary oil recovery in old oilfields as well as the enhancement of economic performance of oilfield. To probe into the feasibility of developing low permeability thin reservoir in Daqing peripheral oilfields with the four-branch herringbone horizontal well technology, the Downhole Operation Division of Daqing Oilfield Company Limited took the trial area of Zhaozhou Oilfield as the study object, carried out well pattern and well trajectory parameter optimization study, designed and implemented drilling of Zhou 72-Ping 54Z herringbone horizontal well under the guidance of fine geosteering technical scheme for horizontal well drilling, and obtained good drilling results. Practical results show that to develop the herringbone horizontal well technology is feasible in low permeability thin reservoir in Daqing peripheral oilfields.
    Alternating Flooding Technology with Chromium Micro gel and Polymer and Its Application

    Chromium micro gel system is a kind of three dimensional network structural gel which generated from cross-linking reaction among molecules of chrome cross-linking agent and partial hydrolyzing polyacrylamide. Gelling time can be controlled by adjusting ligandnumber of chrome cross-linking agent, while gelling intensity and depth can be controlled by adjusting system concentration, which can meet the demand of different reservoirs. The polymer flooding control technology not only improves the intake profile and restrains polymer breakthrough even polymer cross flow by chromium micro gel slug, but also displaces remaining oil in mid-low permeability oil layers by polymer slug. It also pushes forward the chromium micro gel slug into the deep reservoir, which avoids the weakness of mobility control by single profile control and achieves the best effect of blocking up meanwhile flowing. Field application in Sanan development area of Daqing Oilfield showed that after injecting chromium micro gel slug, the input profile was improved and water ratio was decreased by more than 1%. What's more, water cut backed up so slowly that the speed of back-up was effectively controlled. Remarkable results of increasing oil and decreasing water have been given by profile control alternately.
    Brief Analysis on Variation of Current and Indicator Diagram for Accident Diagnosis of Oil Wells

    Upward and downward current is stable, and the indicator diagram does not change a lot during the normal operation of pumping wells. When the two dynamic parameters are abnormal, the working status of oil wells might be abnormal. At this moment, corresponding measures should be adopted to deal with the problem and make oil wells work well. This paper analyzed the variation characteristics of upward and downward current as well as indicator diagram, and their specific change when the belt was broken, the pumping rod was broken and lost, and the well was stuck. It pointed out that both current and indicator diagram should be combined to use, so as to diagnose working status of wells accurately.

    The evaluation of enterprise scientific and technological progress is a problem in technological management. There haven't been any welldeveloped and acknowledged quantitative evaluation methods and models at home and abroad. In the research, the authors collected a large number of data, studied synthetic evaluation method of enterprise technological progress, established comprehensive evaluation index system accordingly, and confirmed evaluation process and rules, according to the actual situation and the income and expenses structure of the enterprise, and the national policies and regulations of technological evaluation. And through the application of CPPLB, the evaluation method has achieved good results.

    Gaining economic profits should be regarded as the standard, rather than being merchandised and industrialized, in the transformation from technological achievement of oil & gas exploration and development to actual productivity. The achievement transformation from potential productivity to actual productivity, which can be divided into 2 procedures: for creep and for leap, is a "5-step and 3-stage" management mechanism. The first step is to conduct hard science dominated by single subject. The second step is to integrate single subject with achievements in hard science, transforming the achievements into that of soft science that takes the form of planning, deployment and scheme, etc. The third step is to provide the achievements in soft science to decision departments as the basis for making decisions. The fourth step is that the decision department accepts the achievements and organizes multiple types of work in production to cooperate and implement them. The fifth step is to obtain economic benefit through implementation. 3 stages include the transformation stage of hard and soft science achievements, the transformation stage of decisions, and the transformation stage of benefit.

    In recent years, Xi'an Changqing Technology Engineering Corporation (CTEC) has been strengthening independent creation and achieved many technical outcomes, such as prominent Maling, Ansai, Jing'An, Xifeng and Jiyuan modes for oilfield surface facilities and Jingbian, Yulin and Sulige modes for gas field surface facilities developed during engineering design for Changqing low-permeability and ultra-low-permeability oil and gas fields, which are conducive to large-scale efficient development of these fields. This paper introduces in detail the scientific and technological outcomes CTEC has achieved in terms of standardization design, surface processes in gas and oil fields and skid-mounted facilities, main measures taken in technical management, such as guaranteeing resources, perfecting administration system, mobilizing the enthusiasm and creativity of technical staffs and accelerating the engineering and integration of production, education & research. It suggests that CTEC accelerate original creativeness in its advanced areas, integrated creativeness in mature areas, digestion, absorption and reinvention in importing area, so as to strengthen the development of original techniques, find research subjects through solving difficult problems and realize integration of research and practice by "from project to project".
    Combination Method for Selecting Comprehensive Oilfield Development Effect Evaluation Targets

    To adapt to the development of oilfield development engineering and change the situation of single evaluation of oilfield development effect and that to determine evaluation targets was only based on experience in the past, comprehensive evaluation on development effect form an overall view need to be conducted. Selecting evaluation targets presupposes comprehensive evaluation. Right or wrong selection is correlated with the reliability and credibility of evaluating results. After brief analysis about the advantages and disadvantages of the selecting method, this paper simplified method of primary scoring by the experts, combined the proportion method, and the analytic method by gathering categories. Combining the methods is to combine qualitative targets with quantitative ones, integrate technical, economic and management targets, and select out representative and independent factors that influence oilfield development effect. It could reflect the targets that influence oilfield development effect and avoid integration nondimensional processing of evaluating targets caused by different dimension, units and numerical magnitude. Calculating load was reduced, and working efficiency was thereby increased. From the results obtained from the two calculating methods, the new method is feasible.

    This paper analyzed the main causes of great difference between domestic recoverable crude oil reserves calibration and SEC reserves assessment results such as assessment units, assessment methods, and different parameter selection. At the same time, it put forward some suggestions for reasonable incorporation of domestic recoverable crude oil reserves calibration into SEC reserves assessment. This is practically significant to solving the difference in assessment results, achieving objective evaluation on recoverable reserves, and meeting the requirements of making oilfield development decisions and disclosing information of listed companies.

    From the 1980s, foreign oil companies began research and development of drilling software, and now have introduced a variety of commercial software products. Foreign drilling software is wide coverage. After long-term field application and improvement, they are characterized by model accuracy, stable operation and high degree of user acceptance. This paper made a detailed description about several mainstream drilling software products (Landmark, Drilling Office, Paradigm, DrillNET), and function characteristics and technical features of drilling software for special process, based on in-depth research and analysis. It analyzed the difference in research and development between China and foreign countries, and put forward that the development of products with independent intellectual property rights must be carried out without delay. Development of drilling software should feature in information integration, 3D visualization, and drilling intelligence.

    In recent years, the R&D on the urea production technology in our country is rising. Snamprogetti which plays an important role in the ammonia stripping urea production field is one of the global urea production technology licensor. This paper analyzed Snamprogetti's patent information about the urea production technology, introduced the protection situation of related patent in China and pointed out some features about its patent application including the high basic patents protection strength, the key areas of the patent layout like Europe, U.S. and Japan, more than half invalid patents, urea synthesization being the key of patent application, more basis patents than invalid ones for ammonia stripping urea synthesization, and dominance by single application, etc. Through the analysis, it was concluded that the urea production company in our country should strengthen intellectual property monitoring in order to prevent infringement risk, make full use of the invalid patents, pay attention to core technology improvement, and make breakthrough in basic inventions.

    Domestic rectangle tank has the problem of poor agitating performance and it's difficult to clean the sand. In connection with these problems, the Petroleum Machinery Factory of CNPC Bohai Equipment Manufacturing Co., Ltd. has developed a new type cylinder solid control system by reasonable design. The fine structure can reach the best agitating purpose, and realize full drilling fluid suction and full liquid waste discharging. This paper introduced the configuration, structure, technical parameters, test and applications of the system. This system has simple structure and scientific process. It has obvious effect on improving the drilling fluid performance and reducing environmental pollution. It's the development trend of drilling liquid solid control system.

    To guarantee the safety of sour-contained wells' drilling and the economic and social benefit, BHNK of CNPC equipment developed the sulfur resistance drill pipe successfully in 2007, which has been the highest steel grade in the world currently and has been successfully used in sour wells such as SINOPEC's Puguang Gas Field. This product has been researched technically from all aspects of the chemical components, the heat treatment process, the rotary friction welding, the nondestructive testing and the physicochemical test. At the same time, it obtains much breakthrough in technical processes, which ensures the quality of the drill pipe effectively. In addition, all the properties of this product meet the requirements of technical conditions, which provide powerful supports for the development of sour-contained wells.

    The traditional mixing cement slurry for well cementing operation not only has large labor intensity, and it is also more difficult to accurately modulate dry ash metering valve. Furthermore, slurry density fluctuates greatly, directly affecting the mixing quality, and the data could not be analyzed after operation. Through the application of the automatic mixing cementing trucks manufactured by the Petroleum Machinery Factory of CNPC Bohai Equipment Manufacturing Co., Ltd., the density and liquid level could be controlled automatically, based on accurate measurement of slurry density, recording the work condition, equipment status and work data truly and thoroughly, improving the degree of automation, and reducing the intensity and difficulty in mixing operation. This paper introduced the main technical parameters, the dynamic actuating system, the mixing slurry system and the prominent characteristics of the equipment. Its reasonable design, advanced techniques, convenient and reliable operation enable it to reach the world's most advanced level in terms of mixing slurry density control.
    BH-VDT5000 Vertical Drilling System Tools

    In order to satisfy the technology needs of deviation control and fast drilling in precipitous and overthrust push nappe formation of the domestic oil and gas fields and fill the blank of the vertical drilling technology in China, BHDC Engineering Technology Research Institute has developed vertical drilling system tools with the German Smart Drilling Company since 2004. Through field experiment, the performance and reliability of the VDT5000 vertical drilling tools have been verified, achieving desired results. Through test and application in 10 wells, including Well Keshen3, Well Keshen203 and Well Keshen207, the highest single trip drilling depth was 1527.8m, the highest daily drilling depth was 410m, the system worked properly, the deviation angle was less than 0.5° and the ROP rose by more than 70%. Through 10 wells on-site construction and the maintenance and detection of tools, on-site construction experience has been accumulated, on-site technical service team, and testing and maintenance teams were exercised, and technical service capabilities were improved. Field application proved that the BH-VDT5000 vertical drilling system in fast drilling of precipitous and overthrust push nappe formation has significant effectiveness in deviation control, increasing ROP and shortening drilling cycle, which could be further widely applied.
    DSHJ Wet Mixing Filtrate Loss Agent

    The wet mixing filtrate loss agent, DSHJ agent, is developed to control the filtrate loss of cement slurry for exploratory wells in Daqing Oilfield. The agent can be dissolved in water at room temperature and control the filtrate loss efficiently. This paper introduced the composite and working mechanism of the new agent. Indoor experimental result showed that this slurry system featured in low water loss, high strength, water and gas channeling resistance and good dynamic mechanical properties. Since tested in wellsite in 1999, the agent has been used in more than 1,000 wells and obtained good results.
    Technology of Slurry Return Height Controller

    Since Daqing Oilfield entered into high water cut period, casing failure has always been a prominent problem. Several hundred casing failure wells per year directly affected the efficiency of oilfield development. It has become the common focus of development and drilling that how to protect casing at early stage to prevent casing failure effectively. Slurry return height controller is an important technology to prevent casing failure. It is designed for casing failure of cementing oil shale datum bed of Nen'er bottom in non-cementing interval. This kind of tool can be opened and closed by pressure variation to circulate out unnecessary cement slurry. It can prevent missing cement of oil reservoir, and replace cement slurry with mud in annular space of easily damaged interval, to protect casing. After being applied in wellsite, it has been generally welcomed and accepted by oil production plants due to its economic and practical use. Up to now, it has been used more than 10,000 wells.
