    Daqing to Maintain 40-million-ton Crude Oil Production Based on Invigorating Petroleum Industry Technologically and Accelerating Independent Innovation

    This paper introduces Daqing Oilfield's technical progress in oil/gas exploration, fine potential tapping by waterflooding, tertiary oil recovery, engineering construction, equipment manufacturing, and oilfield chemical engineering during the "11th Five-Year Plan" period, and the contribution of technological innovation to the Oilfield's steady crude oil production of 40 million tons. According to the introduction, proven oil reserves in Daqing Oilfield have exceeded 100 million tons for seven consecutive years; total proven natural gas reserves top 280 billion cubic meters. Production decline and ascending water cut have been controlled relying on the technique of fine potential tapping by waterflooding, and new progress has been made in systematic tertiary oil recovery techniques, showing broad prospect for industrialization. Besides, non-oil/gas production has achieved a lot, which upgrades the structural of production. Based on five years' effort, Daqing Oilfield has fulfilled virtuous circle in production, benefits, investment and cost, making a significant step in transforming development mode.

    This paper sums up the technological work PetroChina Changqing Oilfield Company has launched in the "11th Five-Year Plan" period, and briefly introduces the main task during the "12th Five-Year Plan" period. According to this paper, the Company has achieved the goal of 50 million tons of oil/gas equivalent, and carried out technological research and development as well as application vigorously during the "11th Five-Year Plan" period. Oil and gas reserves and production have risen considerably powered by significant technological achievements. Sulige gas field and ultra-low-permeability oil reservoirs have been developed effectively. New breakthroughs have been made in horizontal well technique for low-permeability oil and gas fields. Systematic production control techniques for digital oil and gas fields have been developed basically. Annual oil and gas equivalent topped 35 million tons in 2010 and is going to reach 40 million tons this year, stepping on achieving the goal of 50 million tons ahead of schedule.
    Jilin Petrochemical to Lead Future Development by Enhancing Independent Innovation

    This paper systematically introduces what PetroChina Jilin Petrochemical Company has done for technological innovation and technical progress during the the "11th Five-Year Plan" period, i.e. promoting capacity in leading technological development by conducting significant technical research; upgrading technological support guided by systematic technical development; improving technological service capacities by focusing on solving bottlenecks; and enhancing overall technological innovation capabilities based on "three platforms". Besides, this paper elaborates the achievements the Company has made from each aspect. According to the paper, the Company has followed CNPC's overall arrangements and paid more attention to technical development during the "11th Five-Year Plan" period, launching 123 projects in total and acquiring a lot of excellent achievements, receiving 36 state and provincial awards, applying for 198 patents and being authorized with 87. It has developed 11 systematic techniques with independent intellectual property rights such as the technique of ABS, and fulfilled industrialization of 16 achievements such as the development of styrene-butadiene rubber, making benefits as high as 1.8 billion yuan in total.

    BGP is a prestigious service company for geophysical exploration and a professional technical service company of CNPC, of which technical development and progress has vital significance. Since the "11th Five-Year Plan" period, BGP has "spared no efforts to exploring oil and adhered to technological innovation" around CNPC's oil and gas resource strategy, taking technological innovation as important support for transforming development mode and upgrading service capacity. BGP has achieved a lot in human development and technical development, especially in development of large interpretation software and significant equipment, whose GeoEast-Lightning software fills in China's technical gap and is honored as one of the CNPC Scientific and Technological Progress in 2010. BGP has made great breakthroughs in key core techniques and progressed a lot in comprehensive capabilities. As a main force for "exploring oil and gas", BGP has been awarded the "Contribution Prize in Oil and Gas Exploration" for six consecutive years, with work capacity both at home and abroad increasing year by year and operating revenues ranking the second worldwide.
    GWDC to Transform Development Mode Based on Accelerating Technical Innovation

    Since being incorporated in the past three years, GWDC has strengthened technical innovation and management system construction, increased technological investment, stressed on tackling key technological problems, adhered to the integration of geology and engineering, tool and process, independent innovation and integrated matching, undertaken 46 items of State and CNPC R & D projects, and achieved a lot in such techniques as fast drilling, cluster well and horizontal well drilling and completion, and reservoir stimulation, multi-lateral completion system, study on new drilling and completion fluid techniques for deep wells under complex geological conditions, and development of treating agent such as activating agent for organic soil and fluid loss control agent. Among those mentioned above, BGP has received 19 provincial scientific and technological awards, and been authorized 181 patents. In particular, GWDC's special and featured techniques including LEAP800 logging system, oil-based drilling fluid technique, multi-lateral drilling and completion technique have reached domestic and international leading level.

    This paper briefly introduces the progress and achievements of Research Institute of Petroleum Exploration & Development (RIPED) in launching important national oil and gas specific research, constructing S & T condition platforms, innovating theories and techniques, supporting oil and gas exploration and production, and strengthening S & T exchange and cooperation both at home and abroad. In particular, RIPED has made theoretical breakthroughs and achievements in technical innovation by launching a batch of important national projects and CNPC S & T projects. RIPED, a comprehensive research institute of PetroChina engaged in global oil and gas exploration and development, is dedicated to serving corporate strategy, backing up oilfield production, and leading technological development. Since the "11th Five-Year Plan" period, RIPED has promoted "globalization of business, internationalization of human resources, scientific management and integrative construction" in an all-round way, made theoretical breakthroughs and technical development in geological exploration and oil/gas field development, contributing a lot to CNPC’s main business both at home and abroad.     Xibu Drilling to Build Quality Drilling Team Based on Technological Innovation

    In accordance with the development strategy of "technological popularization, research and development, and reservation", CNPC Xibu Drilling Engineering Company Limited has accelerated technological innovation and upgraded engineering service since its establishment in early 2008. It has played an important role in oil and gas exploration and development, completing 7.5882 million meters of drilling footage, 23203 logs, 6004 mud logs, and 553 horizontal wells and other non-conventional wells. The pass rate of well-bore quality and cementing quality was 100% and 99.92% separately, while the qualification rate of log interpretation and the qualification rate of hydrocarbon interpretation for logging were both 100%, increasing reserves and production of oil and gas fields in the west. In the fierce competition of engineering service, Xibu Drilling is marching on with new development mode, and striving for broad prospect.

    Jilin Oilfield is well-known by its low permeability reservoirs, low-abundance reserves and low-quality resource. It has gone through a difficult but bracing way of technical development, from development of simply structural oil reservoirs at early stage to current development of deep-seated volcanic gas reservoirs. This paper sums up four phases of Jilin Oilfield in the past 50 years in terms of development techniques, clarifies that progress in development techniques fundamentally drives the development of the Oilfield. Technical development has changed people's cognition, boosted the role of techniques in oilfield development, and increased people's confidence in tackling problems in exploring hard-to-recover oilfields. Research on the history of technical development of Jilin Oilfield is of great practical significance to development of complicated oilfields today.

    To reexamine old wells and reevaluate old wells and zones is a new approach that has emerged in recent years for potential tapping. This paper briefly introduces that Liaohe Oilfield has developed and improved the work thought and methods applicable for tapping potential and increasing reserves in Liaohe complex block oilfields, based on reexamination of old wells. With data of mud logging, logging and testing, the Oilfield has comprehensively evaluated some old wells and zones, and achieved good results, contributing a lot to increasing reserves and production in the Oilfield.

    According to the Outline of National and CNPC's Intellectual Property Strategies, PetroChina Pipeline Company proceeds from actual situation, constructs intellectual property development strategy focusing on patent protection, and upgrades strategies and supporting measures. It has achieved a lot after several years' effort. Now the Company has owned a series of techniques with independent intellectual property rights, including the technique for integral pipeline management, the technique for triaxial magnetic flux leakage testing and evaluation of pipeline defects, the technique for preparing α-olefin series drag reduction agent, the technique for pipeline security warning and leakage testing, and the process for wax crude oil transmission by adding agent and modification. Patents have been increased quantitatively and qualitatively year by year. This paper elaborates the objectives and significance, key points, specific methods and supporting measures of the Company in formulating development strategy.

    On the basis of discussing national policies related to application of new techniques, this paper sums up some methods currently used in China, for example, the formulation and release of practical technique promotion proposals, the implementation of technological demonstration projects, the construction of new technical industrialization bases, the establishment and organization of management systems, the launching of technical training, and the proceeding of inspection and examination. Besides, it elaborates CNPC's achievements and implementation mode of applying new techniques, such as relying on major projects; integrative operation of research and development as well as production; integration and application of new techniques focusing on technical bottlenecks in exploration and development; gradual promotion of applying key techniques by comprehensively deploying technical research and development and application test; organization and promotion of applying newly well-developed techniques with the aid of administrative means based on turning new techniques into standard specification. All these mentioned above are proved to be very feasible.
    Exxon Mobil's Low-Carbon Technology from Perspective of Patent Activities in Last Decade

    In recent years, international oil companies (IOCs) have developed their strategies responding to climate change. Strengthening low-carbon technology innovation is the main strategy IOCs have announced. To better understand the dynamic development of low carbon technology of IOCs and provide reference for China's oil companies, this paper summarizes the actions responding to climate change Exxon Mobil has taken and analyzes its patent applications in the last decade. Comprehensive analysis reveals that R & D investment of Exxon Mobil in low-carbon domains is low, and some low-carbon technologies are acquired through cooperation with other companies in corresponding domains; Exxon Mobil lays more emphasis on patent protection in major markets worldwide; M & A is the main strategy of Exxon Mobil to get access to low-carbon resources and low-carbon technologies. Based on the analysis, the authors in this paper propose that China's oil companies search for M & A opportunities to obtain patented technologies in commercial domains, and ensure that the partners have enough patented technologies or technology strength by patent analysis when carrying out cooperation projects in the low-carbon energy field.

    No.1 Mud Logging Company of CNPC Bohai Drilling Engineering Company Limited develops an advanced drilling parameter monitoring instrument, i.e. DML drilling parameter indicator, with independent intellectual property rights, so as to meet the needs of real-time data monitoring in oil and gas exploration and achieve safety and quality drilling. The indicator uses an independent system server, acquiring sensor analog signals and sensor pulse signals respectively, forming a complete drilling parameters monitor system together with touch screen, and fulfills such functions as real-time data monitoring, audible and visual alarm, and network remote transfer, etc. It changes backwardness of domestic drilling instrument and improves the capability of domestic drilling equipment comprehensively in the circumstance of blockade of advanced foreign techniques and soaring price.

    Skid-Mounted Capillary Tube Unit for Water Drainage and Gas Production

    There are few effective means to increase and stabilize production in gas wells of low pressure, low yield, and low amount of water in domestic gas fields. To solve the problem, Jianghan Machinery Research Institute develops China's first skid-mounted capillary tube unit for water drainage and gas production was manufactured with independent intellectual property right. Great breakthroughs have been made in some key techniques, and full scale test of 23 wells has been accomplished successfully. Field test shows that the unit performs well in killing the well and achieves good process effect. It provides important technical equipment for water drainage and gas production as well as stimulation, filling domestic blank and catching up with advanced world levels. It has broad prospect for application.

    The paper introduces the development process, operating principle, product mix, technical parameters, performance characteristics, technical level, and functions of the reciprocating plunger pump developed by Zhongcheng Company, illustrates the intellectual property right and characteristics of the fiveplunger pump, and the lab testing and field testing results. It is pointed out that Zhongcheng Company is the designated manufacturer of five-plunger pump, of which the products have been widely applied in domestic oilfields and sold well in the international market.
