Abstract: China National Petroleum Corporation won the bid for the operatorship of Iraq’s Rumaila Oilfield in collaboration with BP in 2009, making an important breakthrough in its foreign oil and gas cooperation in the Middle East region. The Rumaila Project Team of PetroChina Research Institute of Petroleum Exploration & Development has achieved a series of key results in a joint study with BP, which were soon used in oil production of the oilfield, helping increase the oil output of Rumaila Oilfield. In the process of the joint study, the project team has made a series of achievements in technological research method and management concepts, which can be reflected in the areas of data quality control, basic research work, dynamic and static integration, analysis of uncertainty, management of risk analysis, and project management. This joint study allows the project team to cooperate with international oil major in technology, conception and practices, providing good experiences for more international cooperation in the future
